A Little Free Library is coming to Chapel in May. A Little Free Library is a “take a book, return a book” free book exchange. It is a non-profit that promotes neighborhood book exchanges. More than 90,000 book exchanges are registered and branded as Little Free Libraries.
The library builds community, inspires readers, and expands book access to all. Ours will be located on the north side of the church and be available to foot and car traffic. The library is a way for us to reach out the community and to provide not only books for adults, but also books and activities for children provided by our education committee headed by Mickie Quirk. We are hoping that we all will support and use the library by taking a book and providing a book that you have found interesting, inspiring, or just a good read. Not everyone has the time or opportunity to visit our public library and it’s more convenient for some to drive up to the little library, drop off a book, and pick up another book. Anyone can take or share a book. The library functions on an honor system: you don’t need to share a book in order to take one. If you take a book or 2, try to bring some to share when you can.
The Little Free Library will be monitored regularly and damaged or inappropriate books will be sifted out by its steward, Ruthann Strother. If you have multiple books to donate they will be put into the library over time. We hope to be able to distribute fliers to parents just before school lets out for the summer informing them of its location and purpose. Please support our Little Free Library in any way you can, it shows our care and concern for our community beyond our church.
A special thank you goes to the Chapel Trustees committee for approving and installing the library.
