Chapel UMC is blessed to own 2 acres of beautiful woods and trails and a worship area. The Chapel in the Woods was originally created by a combination of two Eagle Scout projects in the late 1980s. One of them did the pavilion and the other did the benches and the trails. John Michael Germaine did landscaping there and at the church. The picnic benches were from Ashcraft in Ashtabula. At that time, we had the greatest number of Eagle Scouts in the Dan Beard District.
Currently we have both a Cub Scout Troop 3055 and a Girl Scout Troop 71113 using this area for their outdoor activities. The scouts and church members have worked diligently together to prepare the area for worship during the summer months. In 2020, we upgraded the worship area with new benches and cement sidewalks to make it more accessible to people in wheelchairs.
We would like to share this space with the Madison community including the residents at the Lantern of Madison and Cardinal Woods. Anyone from our Madison Community would be welcomed to enjoy our outdoor sanctuary for a peaceful prayer time or to eat lunch and commune with nature.
The Chapel in the Woods is located just east of the Chapel Road parking lot (see map).
